BELIZE CITY, Wed. Apr. 22, 2015–Some friends of legendary Belizean football striker, Wayne “Hogman” Olivera, who is presently receiving professional physiotherapy to help his recovery from a stroke, have come together for a fund raising effort to assist Hogman in meeting his therapy bills, which are running at $50.00 per week.
Well known sports/community activist Anthony “Mango” White accompanied Hogman to our sports desk this morning to seek publicity for a one-day event at the Third World Football Field near St. Martin’s Church, to be held next week Friday, May 1, Labor Day. “All proceeds from the event” he said, will be given to Hogman to defray his therapy costs.
Hogman said that after his first week of massage treatment being administered by renowned veteran bodybuilder Joseph “Mud” McClaren, he feels a lot better, and with continued therapy, he is determined to one day put down the crutches he now uses to aid his walking.
The day will include football games for youth as well as for Over-40 veterans. The event starts at 9:30 a.m. with the U-15 games, and at 1:30 p.m. the veterans take over with Over-40 games involving Plaza, Third World, Culture Yabra and All Stars.

Wayne “Hogman” Olivera is one of Belize’s all-time great footballers. The highlight of his illustrious career was when he scored 31 goals to lead White Label to the 1st Division Belize City championship in the 1976-77 season. According to Hogman’s memory, the goal scoring race that year included five players, two being his teammates Maurice Jones and James Adderley, and the other two were Cristobal Mayen of Berger 404 and “Patatu” Cutkelvin of Landivar.
Hogman began his 1st Division career in Belize City with Diamond-A around 1972, and later performed with Green Stripe, White Label, Charger, Royal Rentals, Belikin and Duurly’s, before migrating to the U.S. in 1994 after winning a host of city and national championships.
