CALLA CREEK Cayo District, Wed. Apr. 22.  2020– Rafael Vasquez, 50, a farmer of Calla Creek, is recovering at the Western Regional Hospital in a serious but stable condition after he was shot in the abdomen and leg, and his head was grazed.

Reliable information is that at about 5:30 Monday evening, Vasquez was on his farm when a man of Hispanic descent came up to him, and asked him to take him to the back roads that lead into Melchor, Guatemala.

Vasquez told him that he was not familiar with the road, and did not know anything about it, and the man, believed to be a Guatemalan, then pulled out a gun and shot Vasquez. The gunman then ran out of the farm.

Vasquez was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital, from where he was rushed to the Western Regional Hospital for further treatment.

Police said that when they went to the farm, they found 3 expended shells and a shotgun cartridge.

Belize police will collaborate with the Melchor police in an effort to locate the shooter.
