BELIZE CITY, Fri. June 19, 2020– On Wednesday afternoon, two robbers who were trying to escape after robbing Gas Tomza gas depot, located at Mile 4 ½ on the George Price Highway, were caught by police who were on patrol in the area of Fabers Road, near its junction with the highway.
Police say that while on patrol on the George Price Highway, they were alerted about the robbery at the Gas Tomza depot and that the robbers escaped in a blue car. Police, when they saw a blue car speeding towards Belize City, set chase and fired shots, forcing the driver of the car to stop.
Police say that in the vehicle they found two men —Robert Spain and Clive Haylock, both unemployed Belize City residents. The stolen money and the items that were stolen from the workers at the depot were found with them, and so, they were arrested and charged.
Police said that the two thieves went to the Gas Tomza depot, where they held up Jim Catzim, an employee of the company, and another worker, and robbed them of two cell phones and about $300 in cash, belonging to the company, which were the proceeds of the day’s gas sales.
The men were taken to the police station, where they were charged with aggravated robbery. They were arraigned at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court today before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson, and were remanded until August 17.
