Alejandro Vernon on deep water pier

LettersAlejandro Vernon on deep water pier

Dear Editor,
I read an article today in the Amandala of December 4, 2020, written by former GOB minister, Henry Young (UDP).

“Perhaps the owner of the project can look at Dangriga as the site for the implementation.  There will be no need for dredging and with the completion of the Coastal Road access, Belize’s tourist attractions will be equidistant,” Mr. Young wrote.

Former GOB minister Theodore Arana (PUP) a couple years ago came with the same advice. The government did not pay him any mind. You have deep water, 20 feet deep, and you will have to do NO dredging at the entrance and pier!

When I was an area rep (PUP— Toledo North), I visited the Commerce Bight Pier, just one mile from Dangriga. The deep-water pier could be accommodated there.

I made a comment to a Public Works Department foreman.  He said, “Talk to the Minister.”
A few months later, I lost the election!

ALEJANDRO VERNON, JP ( Former mayor and area rep)
