BELIZE CITY, Sun. Jan. 31, 2021– In an exciting match that went into extra time, Belize’s Deon McCaulay scored a header to give his Ginga University (Atlanta) squad the 2-1 victory over a game Charleston United SC in their UPSL “Sweet 16” playoff match on Saturday, January 30, at the MOBA Soccer Academy Complex in Peachtree City, Georgia, USA.
There are some 212 Division-1 teams scattered across the USA in 24 different conferences of the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), a “professional development soccer league” (Wikipedia). The best teams from all the conferences had entered the UPSL national playoffs, starting with the Round of 32, where Ginga Atlanta blanked AFC 615 by a 4-0 score on January 16.
With their Sweet 16 win on Saturday, Ginga now advances to the Round of 8 quarterfinals, where the competition gets tougher and the spotlight brighter, as they await the Florida champions, to be decided on February 6 between DFC Barca and Florida Soccer Soldiers.
That Round of 8 quarterfinal between Ginga University (ATL) and the Florida champions is scheduled for February 13.
