PLACENCIA PENINSULA, Stann Creek District, Fri. Feb. 19, 2021– A 46-year-old retired Austrian expat, Christian Gusenbauer, is currently hospitalized in a stable condition after being shot by one of four men who invaded his home in the Lark Caye Range on the Placencia Peninsula. The shooter and his accomplices then escaped in Gusenbauer’s boat.

Reports are that around 6:45 on Friday morning, February 19, the men went to the home of Gusenbauer and proceeded to fire shots that were directed at the window of the residence. They made their way inside, but not before the victim barricaded himself in a room. They then proceeded to ransack the house.

The men, who were subsequently able to force their way into the barricaded room, demanded money from Gusenbauer, who handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and the keys to his boat. At some point one of the burglars reportedly fired a single shot which wounded Gusenbauer. The men later used the stolen boat to escape. The vessel was later found by police, but the engine had been stolen.

This weekend the Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, paid the victim a bedside visit after he woke up from a 4-hour surgery. In a post on his Facebook page, Gusenbauer shared that seven pellets were removed from his body but an additional 14 could not have been removed.

Police are investigating this incident.
