BELIZE CITY, Sat. Feb. 20, 2021– Police currently have in custody two men who they believe were involved in a recent chopping incident that took place in the Young Bank area of Camalote Village, Cayo District. Reports from police are that the victim of the incident, 36-year-old Jose Alberto Gonzalez, was found lying on the ground with chop wounds to the body.
He was taken to the Western Regional Hospital, where he is currently listed in a critical condition.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning, February 20. By the time police arrived on the scene, the attack had already taken place and the assailant(s) had fled the scene, leaving the badly wounded Gonzalez for dead.
Reports from police are that Gonzalez and two other persons were socializing in a nearby yard when they got into an altercation. Police are not certain what the motive was for the attack, but they have stated that alcohol was involved.
The men who were arrested are expected to be charged sometime on Monday.
