SAN IGNACIO, Cayo District, Fri. Nov. 5, 2021 — A man was killed and another was injured on Friday evening in a multi-car traffic accident that occurred between Miles 65 and 66 on the George Price Highway. According to police, Heraldo Antonio Lopez, 30, a Cayo resident living off the Chaa Creek road, who was seated in the pan of a pickup truck that was involved in the collision, was flung out of the vehicle and suffered severe head and body injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the San Ignacio Hospital.

Mark Recinos, 30, who lives in an area near the Kontiki Extension, was identified as another victim in the traffic accident. He received injuries to the body, and is currently hospitalized in a stable condition.

Police officers who were dispatched to the area to investigate the three-car crash found two vehicles on the highway and another extensively damaged vehicle that ended up in a pasture as a result of the impact of the pile-up.

Lopez and Recinos were then rushed to the San Ignacio Hospital.

Police have issued notices of intended prosecution to the drivers of the vehicles, and they have recorded statements as they carry out an investigation to determine what caused the collision.
