BELMOPAN, Wed. Jan. 26, 2022– Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño left the country on Wednesday for Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to attend the inauguration of the Central American country’s first female president. The official inauguration of the president of the Republic of Honduras is set to take place Thursday, January 27. Back in November, 2021, Xiomara Castro won Honduras’ presidential elections with a landslide victory of 1.7 million votes (51% of all votes cast), which is the largest number of votes that any candidate has received in the country’s history.
Castro, who is a democratic socialist and whose husband served as Honduras’ president from 2006-2009, has promised to tackle corruption and poverty, and to attempt to remove or amend the country’s abortion laws during her four-year term.
