BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 17, 2022– On March 12, 2022, the Belize City Council hosted their first Women in Business Pop Up Shop in Battlefield Park. This event was a Women’s Month celebration under the theme, “Break the Bias”. The Pop Up Shop hosted over 30 local female entrepreneurs who brought out their merchandise on full display at the available booths.

Some of the Belizean-made products on sale included candles, air fresheners, skin products, hair accessories, jewelry, sangria and more. In addition to products, the entrepreneurs also provided their services at the Pop Up Shop. Residents visited the Locs Nation booth of Ms. Desiree Jones to have their hair cared for, the Hair Traveller booth by Ms. Marsha Guzman to receive facials and the Mie Make Up booth by Ms. Miesha Brannon for makeup and eyelash application.

One of the participating female entrepreneurs was Ms. Shanice Messam, owner of Stich by Shan. Her small business offers handmade hair accessories, many of which are made of satin material. Following the event, Messam said, “It was an amazing experience with an impressive curation of creative and talented women entrepreneurs coming together in one place. I loved meeting everyone, new and repeating customers, and serving them.”

Ms. Amira Correra was also an entrepreneur at the event. Correra owns Sangria Mia, a business that offers homemade sangria. According to Correra, “These opportunities are exactly what we need to advance our economy and to create a cycle for a sustainable community.”

The Women in Business Pop up Shop is expected to take place in municipalities all over the country throughout the month of March in order to create a platform for Belizean women to showcase their products and be connected to new customers.
