GeneralPolice vehicle explodes

It was a near-death experience for two officers
who escaped a burning mobile moments
before it exploded!

BENQUE VIEJO, Cayo District, Mon.
June 20, 2022
In the wee hours of this morning, two
police officers from Benque Viejo were
almost blown up along with the Wingle
patrol pickup assigned to them. Around
1:20 a.m. today, police officers PC
Sicario Cruz and PC Luis Carado left
their station in the red Wingle pickup
and were traveling on the road when a
loud bang was heard by the driver. He
reportedly exited to check the vehicle
but saw no sign of fire when he lifted
the hood. Shortly after going back inside
the vehicle and resuming their journey,
however, the officers saw the glove
compartment on fire, and quickly
dismounted the vehicle.
“The vehicle then exploded, where it
landed on a wooden structure that was
not too far from the street. By the time
that the Fire Department showed up and
extinguished the fire, two of our policeissued
Smith and Wesson firearms were
destroyed by fire.” Communications
Director of the Police Department, ASP
Fitzroy Yearwood said.
Luckily, the two officers made it out
of the vehicle in time. Yearwood said
that they believe the explosion was
caused by an electrical issue.
“We have a motor vehicle inspector
that will check the vehicle today, and of
course, the fire department is doing their
investigation also, simultaneously,
because we know that these Wingles are
old vehicles. We’ve had them for quite
some time; at this moment it would want
to seem that it is something electrical,”
Yearwood said.
