BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Sept. 1, 2022
Well, it is now down to the championship finals in the Yabra Mayor’s Cup 15 & Under football tournament which kicked off with 6 teams back on July 10 with 11-a-side games beginning each Sunday at 12:00 noon at the Yabra football field. Participating teams were: Poor & Famous, Third World, Jah Love, Reality Youth, Hattieville, and Yabra.
The tournament is coordinated by Yabra icon Jerome “Peeloff” Maheia and is sponsored by Belize City mayor Bernard Wagner.
At the end of a single round-robin regular season, the top 4 teams advanced to the knockout semifinals, which were held this past Sunday, August 28.
In the first semifinal, #2 seed Hattieville defeated #3 Reality Youth in sudden-death penalty shootout, after the teams had played to a regulation 3-3 draw.
The second semifinal was to match #4 seed Poor & Famous vs #1 Yabra, but Poor & Famous was a no-show, so Yabra won by default.
The championship is set for this coming Sunday at Yabra Field:
Sunday, September 4, 12:00 noon
Game 1 (3rd Place) – Reality Youth vs Poor & Famous
Game 2 (Championship) – Yabra vs Hattieville
