BELIZE CITY, Mon. June 19, 2023

A terrifying triple shooting occurred in Camalote Village, leaving one man dead and two women nursing injuries. In Orange Walk Town, a man was found dead, his life cut short by gun violence.

In the first shooting incident, Roaring Creek Police received an emergency call at about 9:15 p.m. on Sunday from the Arizona area, Teakettle Village. A woman, later identified as 25-year-old Maria Guevara of Armenia Village, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. In her pain-ridden state, Guevara named Jose Reyes as her attacker.

A short while later, at about 9:30 p.m., another call rattled the police lines. The report indicated that two individuals, a man and a woman, had been shot and were in the area behind the cemetery in Camalote Village.

Upon arrival in the area, police found Wilmer Romario Ordonez lying motionless on his back in the middle of a dirt road, a fatal gunshot wound on his body. The second victim, Luzbin Ordonez, 24, was picked up and taken to the Western Regional Hospital.

An in-depth investigation by police revealed that Guevara and Wilmer Ordonez were romantically linked, and that the pair had been embroiled in an argument earlier in the day. Following the dispute, Guevara had left the farm area the couple was in, heading toward the cemetery area, only to return later that evening.

According to witnesses, a motorcycle was seen passing by, and Wilmer Ordonez headed in its direction. Witnesses said there was a loud commotion, followed closely by a series of gunshots.

The police’s detailed examination of the crime scene led to the discovery of four 16-gauge shotgun shells.

The injured women, Guevara and Luzbin Ordonez, were rushed to the Western Regional Hospital. Both are reported to be in stable condition. With the alleged shooter identified to the police, a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

“He [Reyes] is not in custody. We are looking for him. A warrant has been issued for his arrest, and we’re asking the public’s assistance to give us information if they know his whereabouts,” ACP Hilberto Romero informed during a press briefing.

A separate shooting incident sent shockwaves through Orange Walk Town. On Sunday, June 18, at around 4:00 a.m., Roberto Aragon was found in Staine Alley, with four gunshot wounds. He was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a medical doctor at 6:01 a.m.

Aragon’s bereaved mother, Sylvia Villa, was there to identify her son’s body.

According to police, Aragon was in the alley when gunshots were heard. In an interview with Aragon’s sister, Alba Monzon, she said she finds what happened to him astonishing because her brother was a hard-working and non-problematic individual.

“I don’t know what happened. I would have wanted them to tell me what happened. I still ask myself why they did this to my brother?” she said.

Investigations into this case are ongoing. Aragon was not known to the police, and they have no motive for his murder. While Police haven’t established a motive for Aragon’s murder, Albertito Pott and Ariel Medina are reportedly wanted for questioning.
