Missing key witness in murder case raises concern

GeneralMissing key witness in murder case raises concern

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. June 22, 2023

Iran “Basco” Jones, a reported key witness in the Sean Menzies murder case and an individual with a significant criminal record, has been reported missing by his family, sparking concerns and further speculations in an already heated case.

Jones’ family reported him missing on June 17, 2023, after leaving his home in Hattieville, and investigations into his sudden disappearance commenced since then. The Amandala news outlet reported in 2020 that Menzies was a well-known Bowen & Bowen sales representative who was gunned down near his home, and Jones’ role as a crucial witness in the case has placed him in the center of attention, increasing the spotlight on the severity of the situation.

Since Jones’ disappearance his family, while working tirelessly to locate him, have been pleading with local police for assistance. His missing person report has left the public wondering if his involvement in the Menzies case and his own criminal history could have possibly motivated foul play against him.

Jones’ record is not clean; he has had several brushes with the law. Allegedly, Jones was charged in the case of Santos Sanchez, who made headlines in Belize in late 2014 after pleading guilty to robbery and an attack outside Lion King Night Club, in Belize City.

Jones’ testimony in the Menzies case is understood to be of great importance, which would explain him being in a risky position.

Unfortunately, Amandala’s attempts to get an interview or statement from Jones’ family have been unsuccessful. The search for him continues, with police and family members recently conducting a search party on the John Smith Road, in Belize City.

In the meantime, the community is left to speculate about the possible connections between Jones’ missing person case, his role as a witness in the Menzies trial, and his own questionable past.
