BELIZE CITY, Mon, Nov. 27, 2023

Jordan Waight Burns, a 24-year-old laborer from Mayflower Street and a known affiliate of the Backa-Lands Crips (BLC) gang, was shot and killed in broad daylight in the Lake Independence area of Belize City on the morning of November 23.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Holy Emmanuel Street in the Gungulung area, near Chetumal Boulevard.

Burns was walking along the street when he was approached by a single gunman who fired as many as 4 shots that struck him in the head, leaving him motionless. Police, upon arrival at the scene, rushed Burns to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

This week, during a press briefing, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Hilberto Romero provided further details. “We are seeking one suspect in regard to this investigation. We believe it is an internal feud that is occurring in that area, and we have identified one person who we are looking for,” stated ACP Romero.

He also mentioned the deployment of additional police officers in the area to prevent possible retaliation.

This follows unconfirmed reports which suggested that the attack on Burns might have been carried out by a close affiliate of his. Police investigations continue.
