The Belmopan Comprehensive Flames won the Bronze medal in female football at the XXI CODICADER (Commission of Central American Integration for Sports and Recreation) Under-17 Scholastic Games, at the Las Delicias National Stadium in San Salvador from Thursday to Tuesday, October 3-8.

Despite their 0-11 loss to the eventual champions Panama’s Instituto Rubiano on Tuesday morning, the Flames accumulated 9 pts from 3 victories, to rank 3rd in the standings at the end of the tournament, and received the bronze medal in an awards ceremony on Tuesday evening. The undefeated Panama girls captured the gold with 18 pts from 6 wins. Costa Rica received the silver medal.

Kenya Yuleidi Perez scored 7 goals for the Flames – 2 against Guatemala, 3 against Salvador, and 2 against Honduras. Adali Miranda added a 3rd goal for the 3-1 win over Guatemala’s INEB Telesecundaria.

Jasha Gloria Bernardez scored 5 goals, including a brace (18’ and 32’) in to their first win, 6-2, over the hosts, Centro Escolar Alberto Guerra Trigueros, last Friday afternoon, when Jolene Aranda (84’) scored the 6th goal. Bernardez also scored a brace (36’ and 44’) in their 5-1 win over Honduras’ Instituto Modesto Rodas Alvarado at the Salvador Football Federation (FESA) field, where Jolene Aranda (68’) delivered a 5th goal. Only Bernardez scored a consolation goal in their 1-5 debut loss against Costa Roca’s Colegio Santa Maria de Guadalupe (SAMAGU) last Thursday.

Nicaragua’s Complejo Educativo Reino de Suecia won, 2-0, over the Flames on Sunday, but finished 4th in the standings with only 8 pts, as they had drawn 2 matches.
