The Belize Elementary School (BES) girls and the Holy Redeemer RC boys won Belize District primary schools volleyball championships organized by the National Sports Council at the Belize City Civic Center on Tuesday, February 11.

In the female championship finals, the Belize Elementary girls and the 2x defending national champions – Holy Redeemer RC girls were evenly matched; as the BES girls took the 1st set, 25-17, but the Holy Redeemer RC girls won the 2nd set, 25-17. In the decisive 3rd set, BES’ Kristen Simpson served 5 aces to prevail, 15-10.

The 2x defending district champions, Holy Redeemer RC boys similarly dispatched the Belize Elementary boys: 25-15, 17-25, 15-7, in the male finals.

In the district semifinals, the Holy Redeemer girls dominated the Ladyville Evangelical School girls: 25-10, 25-8; while the Belize Elementary School girls prevailed: 25-6, 21-25, 15-6 over the Island Academy girls.

The Belize Elementary boys had to go to extra points to eliminate the island champions, the Holy Cross Anglican boys: 25-23, 29-27. The Holy Redeemer boys eliminated the Our Lady of the Way RC School boys from Ladyville: 25-18, 12-25, 15-11.

The city tournament had begun on January 16 with 8 female teams and 10 male teams.

In the Belize Rural competition, the Ladyville Evangelical School girls won the rural championship over the Our Lady of Lourdes RC girls from Maskall: 25-22, 25-23, 15-5. The Our Lady of the Way RC boys won the rural championship: 22-25, 25-10, 18-16 over the Ladyville Evangelical boys in the Rural eliminations held at the Elton Park in Burrell Boom on Tuesday, January 28.

The Island Academy girls also qualified to the district finals by winning the island eliminations 25-18, 25-21, over the Isla Bonita Elementary girls at the San Pedro High School auditorium on Thursday, January 30. The Holy Cross Anglican boys also advanced to the district finals by eliminating the Ambergris Caye Elementary School boys: 29-27, 25-21.

The BES girls and Holy Redeemer boys will represent the Belize District at the National Primary Schools Volleyball Championships to be held at the Punta Gorda Multipurpose Sports Complex on Friday, March 7.
