Old Road Defenders won, 3-2, vs Hattieville United

Old Road Defenders, Caesar Ridge FC and Tut Bay FC all enjoyed big wins in the 6th week of the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) First Division 2024-2025 Closing Season at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City last Sunday afternoon, May 11.

In Game 1, the Old Road Defenders enjoyed their first win, 3-2, over Hattieville United Youth Sporting Club, with goals by Zane Zetina (44’), Frederick “Shorty” Garbutt (58’) and Kevin Young (73’). Jesse James (38’) had scored first for Hattieville, and Milton Estrada (68’) had equalized at 2-2.

In Game 2, Caesar Ridge FC handed the defending champions, Survivors FC, their 4th loss, 6-1, keyed by Devin McCaulay who came off the bench to score a hat trick after the break (48’, 53’ & 80’), after Kenan Zuniga’s brace (7’ & 12’), and Francis Arana made it 3-0 before the half. Only Carlos Raul Lopez (83’) delivered a late goal for Survivors.

In Game 3, Tut Bay FC enjoyed their 4th win, 5-1, over the Reggae Boyz, led by Calvin Thurton’s brace, (36’ & 67’), after Tom Moguel (14’) had opened the scoreboard. Other goals came by Devin Thurton (45’ PK) converting a penalty, and Coach Ali Thurton refreshed his offensive line with Ken Galvez, Khambrel Blease, Akeem Thurton, Orson Twist, and Tyrone Guy to replace Dylon Belisle, Shemar “Busta” Thomas, Kevaughn “Poty” Tablada, Raymond “Juny” Gentle and Moguel.

Reggae Boyz’ player-coach, Ryan Simpson joined the action after the break, along with Harold Thompson, Dejean Thompson, Shaughnessy Briceño and Clinton Dawson, relieving Isani Napata, Kyle Hemsley, Jaheem “Hammer” Thomas, and Dion Cacho (74’), who scored a late penalty before he came off. Tyrone Guy (89’) sealed Tut Bay’s 5-1 win.

In Week 5 back matches played last Thursday evening, in Game 1, Kelly Street Bombers enjoyed their 3rd win, 2-0, to hand Survivors their 3rd loss, with Quince Briceño (39’) delivering a 2nd goal, after Survivors’ midfielder Ali Flores (10’ OG) inadvertently sent the ball into his own net. Survivors’ player-coach, Anthony “Buck” Arnold entered fray, along with Kevin Espinosa, Demron Palacio, Haile Bowen, and Jonathan “Toto” Garay, but Kelly Street reinforced their defense with Leon Gentle, Lemar Whyte and Jyan Augustine to secure the 2-0 win.

In Game 2, Tut Bay marched over Hattieville United to their 3rd win, 6-0, with goals by Tom Moguel (9’), Kevaughn Tablada (40’), Calvin Thurton (44’), Shemar Thomas (55’), and Esmond “Bagga” Sanker scored a brace (74’ & 88’). Lebron Robinson, Dawyn Castillo, Glenford King, Trevaughn “Monster” Rhaburn and Tarrique Belisle came off the village bench to try and alter the narrative, but Tyrone Guy, Ken Galvez, Albert Thurton, Ronald Flowers and Khambrel Blease reinforced the Tut Bay offensive line to secure the 6-0 win.

One back match remains to be played between Caesar Ridge FC and Reggae Boyz at a date yet to be announced.
