SILK GRASS, Stann Creek District, Fri. Mar. 26, 2021– In the wee hours of Friday morning, Omar Kantun was brutally stabbed over 50 times and left dead (or dying) in his bedroom. His murder took place in the village of Silk Grass in the Stann Creek District. Police have since arrested and charged his common-law wife, 53-year-old Lesbia Alvarez, a Guatemalan national, for his murder.
Reports are that the couple argued prior to the incident — one of many arguments, according to neighbors of the couple who spoke to the media and the police. The couple reportedly had a history of domestic altercations, but none were ever reported to the police, according to ACP Joseph Myvett.
Alvarez reportedly sought out a neighbor and friend of Kantun when she purportedly found his bloodied body in his room. The neighbor, who immediately suspected Alvarez of the crime, observed that her hair was wet at that time, which indicated that she had taken a bath, and would have thus passed the room where the victim was lying dead.
Alvarez is also currently being charged for immigration-related offenses. At this time, police are not sure if she acted alone or had help from anyone. An investigation into this homicide continues.
