Another charged for Jervis Valencia shooting

GeneralAnother charged for Jervis Valencia shooting

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Feb. 19, 2021– Police have arrested and charged a second man for the January 26th shooting of Jervis “Diamond” Valencia. Calbert Humes, 25, was charged with a single count of abetment to murder and was arraigned on Friday of last week in the chambers of Magistrate Stephanie Gillett.

He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 26, 2021. No plea was taken from him.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 26, Valencia was sitting in a yard situated in an alley in the “Bailar” area of the Mayflower community when he was ambushed by five men, one of whom shot him several times in the lower abdomen, groin area, and leg.

The shooting is believed to be a result of an internal rivalry existing among certain groups inside the community, and between family members. Valencia’s cousin, Kareem Kelly, was the first person arrested for his shooting.

Humes is reportedly a resident of Hopkins Village but is a former resident of the Mayflower area. Police continue to keep a close eye on the community.
