BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Dec. 19, 2019– Bart Lucas, 32, a laborer of Pinks Alley, has been charged with attempted murder for the shooting of Christopher Guild, 35, a customer care representative, on Barrack Road at about 11:00 Monday night.

Lucas was additionally charged with dangerous harm, aggravated assault, and use of deadly means of harm. He was arraigned at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer, who read the charges to him.

Lucas pleaded not guilty, but no bail was offered to him and he was remanded until February 18, 2020.

Police said that Guild was walking on Barrack Road when a man who was armed with a gun rode up behind him and fired at his head at close range.

After he was grazed in the head, Guild turned and ran down the street, away from the gunman, who kept firing at him. The shooting didn’t stop until the gunman disappeared on his bike down Victoria Street.

Guild was struck in his upper shoulder, chest and head.

During the weekly police press brief held today, ASP Alejandro Cowo said that before Lucas disappeared down Victoria Street, he also fired at a policeman who was walking up Barrack Road at the time, but luckily, the policeman was not hit.

Police who processed the scene found 15 expended shells.

Police say the motive for the shooting of Guild is unknown. Guild is hospitalized in a critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
