BELIZE CITY, Mon. June 20, 2022

Rainy weather did not stop football action at the MCC Grounds yesterday, Sunday, where 4 games were played to complete the single round-robin regular season of the Belize District Football Association (BDFA) 1st Division 2021-2022 Closing Season.

In game 1 scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. kickoff, Lake-I FC got the 3-2 win over Port Loyola.  Lake-I led 2-nil with goals from Kenrick Cumberbatch (20’) and Robert Hernandez (57’), until  Port Loyola drew even with a goal each from Zinedine Hines (64’) and Kenroy Linarez (69’); but Lake-I then got the game winner from Lawnie Leslie (81’).

Game 2 saw Pickstock Ebony crushing Stars Academy, 6-1, with goals coming from Keydenshay Bowen (4’ & 79’), Traveyon Martinez (22’ & 80’), Luis Acosta (50’) and Myron Requena (63’); while Jaymion Cacho (59’) scored the only goal for Stars Academy.

In game 3, after trailing 1-nil at the half, undefeated Kelly Street Bombers exploded for 5 second half goals to come away with the 5-2 victory over Eagles SC. Shaking the net for the Bombers were Francis Andrews (52’ & 58’), Jaylen Clother (66’), Steven Baizar (78’) and Ceron Usher (82’); while Eagles got a goal apiece from Fede Esteverne (33’) and Keron Sutherland (88’).

Game 4 was Hattieville United’s last chance to gain a victory in regular season, but their hopes were dashed by Ladyville Rising Stars who cruised to a 5-1 win over Hattieville with goals from Denroy McCord (7’ & 35’), Steven Rivera (9’) and Deltroy Gamboa (30’ & 61’).  Hattieville’s lone goal was by Jaheed Baptist (12’).

The stage is now set for the knockout semifinals, where the #1 ranked team meets #4, and the #2 team faces #3. (See final standings below.)  Note that Ladyville Rising Stars edged out Port Loyola by goal difference only, as both ended with 10 points.
