BDFA Summer Tournaments 2011 championships

SportsBDFA Summer Tournaments 2011 championships
The Belize District Football Association (BDFA) Summer Tournaments 2011 concluded on Saturday, November 5, at the MCC Grounds with championship games played in three different age categories – U15, U17 and U20.

In the U15, Young Stars FC defeated “Smart” Brown Bombers FC, 2-0, with goals from Patrick Max and Brandon Myers.

In the U17, “Smart” Brown Bombers FC defeated Hattieville United Youth Sports Club (HUYSC), 3-1, behind goals from Devaughn Zuniga, Steven Goff and Calvin Young.   Hattieville’s lone goal was by Richard Waight.

And in the U20, Complex Admirals eventually prevailed 3-1 over San Pedro FC after playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation. Clinton Jorgenson put Complex in front, 1-nil, but Jesse Guerrero equalized for San Pedro with a beautiful shot from a distance over the head of the Complex goalie. San Pedro had a chance to end it all in regulation when Guerrero was taken down in the eighteen, but Guerrero’s teammate sent it over the cross bar. In over time, Gilroy “Bredda” Thurton played big for Complex, creating a penalty, which Avian Crawford converted, and then closing the curtain with a goal of his own, after beating three defenders consecutively along the western goal line before out placing the San Pedro goalie for the final 3-1 score.

After the final game, trophies were presented to the winning teams by BDFA Chairman Hugh “Pinaz” Staine. (There were only 3 teams in the U15 competition, 4 teams in the U17, and 3 teams participating in the U20 tournament, all males.)

According to a release today from the BDFA Secretariat, “On 1 November 2011 members met to conclude a meeting that had begun on 27 October, the purpose of which was to consider and adopt official Statutes for the BDFA.  As nearly all members were represented on 1 November, the discussions were much more fruitful in clarifying concerns that had previously been raised.  At the conclusion of the meeting, all members attending voted to accept and subscribe the Statutes proposed.”
