General“Big Tom” Flowers arrested for “explicit video coercion”

BELIZE CITY, Fri. Sept. 5, 2020– Today, well-known street figure, Kenneth Flowers, 35, also known as Big Tom, of a Belize City address, has been arrested and charged with “explicit video coercion.” He has been detained pending arraignment.

Commissioner of Police Chester Williams said that he has studied the categories of sexual offences that are listed under the criminal amendments, and has identified offenses that were committed by Flowers when he coerced a woman, 25, known to him, to carry out a sexual act on another man in front of a camera, which recorded a video of the act that was transmitted livestream on social media, as well as offenses for which the owner of the house in which the incident took place and the man upon whom the sexual act was performed, will be charged.

There is still a State of Emergency in place for southside Belize City, and, on the basis of the emergency powers conferred upon him, Commissioner Williams said that Flowers, as well as the owner of the house and the man upon whom the sex act was performed would be sent to prison.

Flowers’ arrest was announced today by police after an investigation was conducted into the live-streaming on social media of an explicit video in which a woman was forced to conduct sexual acts on a man at the prompting of another man, whom police have identified as Flowers.

After the Police Commissioner was made aware of the video on Tuesday, he ordered an immediate investigation and today, Flowers’ arrest was announced.

Williams told the media that the woman and the two men were found at a house in Lake Independence, but the woman did not want to cooperate with the investigation because Flowers is allegedly a gang leader and she is fearful that gang members loyal to him might retaliate.

Police have contacted the woman’s mother with a view to getting some help for her through the Women’s Department, which has expertise in the provision of counseling and emotional support.

Police hope that after Flowers is remanded, the woman will cooperate with investigators.
