BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 21, 2023

The lifeless body of a 15-year-old boy was found in a bushy lot near an abandoned house on Hunter’s Lane in Belize City on Sunday, August 20.

According to reports, the deceased teen – 15-year-old Nigel Ferguson – had departed from his home at around 5:00 p.m., that same day but had not told anyone where he was going. He was not seen again until his lifeless body was discovered.

When police arrived at the scene at about 10:00 p.m., they found the boy’s body, on which there were multiple stab wounds, lying on the ground. They also saw a cut wound on his throat.

Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams told reporters that Ferguson’s death might have stemmed from an altercation he had with several persons in the area that occurred hours before he was killed. However, he was unable to confirm whether those persons are minors as well.

ComPol Williams thus believes that the reasons for the murder of the teen might have been of a personal nature and not gang-related. However, contrary to what ComPol Williams suggested, the mother of the deceased, Janet Lopez, told Amandala that her son was indeed gang-affiliated and associated himself with different groups in the area.

“My son wasn’t no saint,” Lopez said. “He did his wrong in life, but the way they killed him, he never deserved that death,” she added.
