BELIZE CITY, Wed. Nov. 25, 2020– The Amoa family, who reside in the Lake Independence area of Belize City, are today grappling with the murder of 20-year-old Devin Amoa just a day after the burial of his sister, who passed on Sunday.

On the night of Monday, November 23, at around 6:30, Amoa, an attendant at Belize Medical Associates, had only just returned to his family’s Giles Street residence after purchasing medication for his mother, when an unidentified gunman kicked in the gate and opened fire.

Amoa was hit multiple times.  Commissioner of Police Chester Williams has indicated that investigators are seeking two suspects for questioning.

Houston Amoa, brother of the deceased, said Devin wanted to have a career in the healthcare sector, but that will never be realized: “They mih supposed to come ya fi kill somebody else, but just that, you know, when you can’t catch Harry, yuh catch ih shirt…my bredda dah mih a hardworking man. The man come out of school, the man actually finish 4th form.  Ih end up dih get a job there [Belize Medical Associates]; so far, it seems like he mih wah do big things. In response to Amoa’s death, Belize Medical Associates issued a statement stating, “He will be remembered as a kind-hearted, sweet, respectable and humble individual who never refused to go the extra mile, no matter how far it was.”
