JALACTE BORDER, Toledo District, Wed. Oct. 20, 2021– On Tuesday, October 19, 2021, the Police Department formally arrested and charged Evangelina Rosalina Ack, a bus driver, who is accused of fatally stabbing a man who attempted to halt a domestic dispute in which she was involved at a bar near the Jalacte Border in the Adjacency Zone between Belize and Guatemala.

Ack reportedly appeared in the Magistrate Court in Belmopan before Magistrate Ed Usher and is being represented by attorney Richard “Dickie” Bradley. She is currently on remand, after being read a single charge of murder, and is scheduled to reappear in court on October 20, 2021.

The incident for which she was charged took place on Sunday, October 17, at the Rancho el Manacal Salessipuedes establishment. Ack and her common-law husband, Kent Chun, who is also a bus operator, were involved in a heated argument. An onlooker, Justo Ubeny Augustin Martinez, interrupted the altercation in an attempt to mediate it.

In response, Ack, who is a mother of three and reportedly still nursing her youngest child, allegedly broke a beer bottle and stabbed Martinez. Martinez began bleeding profusely and was quickly rushed by members of his family to a clinic in Guatemala, where he passed away.

Ack had initially attempted to flee from the scene, and drove away in a bus in an effort to avoid being taken into police custody, but the bus ran out of fuel and came to a stop near San Antonio Village, where she was apprehended by the police. Two days after her detention, she was indicted for murder.

Ack’s lawyer, Richard “Dickie” Bradley, is claiming that Martinez had not intervened in the dispute to part the fight, but instead proceeded to beat Ack along with Chun. Bradley claims that Ack panicked and stabbed Martinez in the upper shoulder, which caused him to bleed to death.
