GeneralCaledonia mason charged with theft of items valued at over $30,000

BELIZE CITY, Mon. Jan. 6, 2020– Ismael Patt, 40, a mason of Caledonia Village, Corozal District, was charged with the theft of 50 dozen Ray Ban sunglasses, valued at $50 each, when he appeared today before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts Anderson. Patt is also alleged to have stolen 19 small bottles of Panty Ripper (rum), one bottle of Gold Rum and 4 hammocks. The total value of the sunglasses and other items was $30,626.

Patt pleaded not guilty to the charge. He was released on a bail of $6,000 with two sureties of $3,000 each and his case was adjourned until February 27. The bail was granted on the condition that Patt must not interfere with the virtual complainant or any other prosecution witness and that he does not go within 100 yards of the complainant.

On December 2, the complainant, businesswoman Denora Gusman, 48, went to the Ladyville Police Station and reported to the police that at about 12:45 p.m. on October 10, she went to her sister’s apartment building, located at Mile 11 ½ on the Philip Goldson Highway, to check on some items she had stored in one of the apartments. She said that when she looked inside the apartment she discovered that several items were missing. The police conducted an investigation which led to the arrest of Patt.

None of the stolen items have been recovered.
