GeneralCarlos Umana, 36, dead by suicide?

Amandala spoke to Carlos? brothers, Edwin and Elmor, while they were awaiting the result of the post-mortem that was conducted on Tuesday, May 3, at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Edwin and Elmor, who were in a state of shock after they learned that their brother had hanged himself, explained to us they knew that he was having family problems, and that he would sleep outside his house.

Edwin said Carlos would argue with Maria, after he would contribute to his other four children?s welfare. These children live with his previous wife.

Edwin said that when he arrived at Carlos? house, he was already cut down and lying in the living room before the police arrived on the scene.

?The piece of board that I was shown measured about one inch by three inches, with a piece of rope that was cut, attached to it. I don?t know how a man who is 5 feet 8 inches in height and weighs approximately 180 pounds could hang himself on that board,? explained Edwin.

?My brother was a strong, healthy, and ambitious tradesman,? said Elmor.

Edwin said that although Carlos was drinking earlier during the day, he does not believe that his brother would have taken his life. According to Edwin and Elmor, family problems were the only troubles Carlos experienced.

The post mortem revealed that Carlos died as a result of asphyxia due to hanging.

Police say that an apparent blow to the head may have been caused when the rope, from which Carlos was seen hanging, was cut. Police do not suspect foul play.

Carlos Umana is survived by his parents: father, Marcelino Umana and mother, Rosa Flores; sons, Carlos, Jr., Mark Anthony, and Juan; daughters Noemi and Bethesda; brothers, Edwin and Elmor; and sisters, Zoila and Patricia.

Funeral service will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at the residence of Albert James, located on Bishop Martin Street in Santa Elena.
