A third individual has suffered death in an untimely manner this month, as shots rang out over Gill Street last night, Tuesday.
At the end of the shooting, Carlton “Guilty” Tasher, 21, of Freedom Street, lay mortally wounded and Gill Street residents, no strangers now to gunfire, cautiously came out to inspect the scene.
At 8:20 Tuesday night, “Guilty” had been standing at the streetside with a female friend and was waiting on his bicycle for her to return when a lone gunman rode up and fired at him at close range, peppering Tasher with shots to the chest, leg and hand from a 9 mm pistol. Police recovered seven shells, a slug, and a fragmented bullet of this type from the crime scene.
Area residents streamed out to help and Tasher was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but a fall from the vehicle he was traveling in, to the street, did not help his condition and he died on arrival.
Police note that Tasher was out on bail and had been charged with a number of previous serious offenses, from which he had walked.
Police do not have a motive, but they do have a suspect, Carl Anthony “Kyle” Edwards, 22, who was arrested and charged for murder today. Already, Edwards’ relatives are claiming that their son was not even in the city at the time of the killing.
Tasher’s murder is the third for the year and the second in Belize City (both on the Southside), and sounds a familiar note to a city already overburdened with crime.
