BELIZE CITY, Wed. May 24, 2023
During the rush hour on Wednesday morning, May 24, an 11-year-old female student was injured when she fell out of a Faber’s Road city bus while she was on her way to school.
According to reports, the girl, Renine Sanker, had been standing near the back door of the bus (a City Shuttle) when that door suddenly swung open, causing her to fall face-first onto the pavement on Regent Street. As a result, she suffered injuries to her face and arms, along with considerable bleeding.
Preliminary reports indicate that the bus door may not have been securely locked following the exit of a prior passenger.
However, there have also been reports, following further investigations, that the young girl might have been attempting to come off of the bus just as it started moving again, which led to her unexpected fall.
Following the accident, local police escorted Sanker to James Garbutt Seventh Day Adventist School, where she is a student. She was later transported by the principal of the school to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for a thorough examination.
Fortunately, the injuries she sustained were minor, consisting primarily of bruising to her face and arm, and her condition is now stable.
The driver of the bus, whose identity remains undisclosed, is reported to have expressed deep concern over the incident. He additionally took leave from his regular duties for the day to aid further investigations into the incident
Amandala has attempted to obtain comments from both Honorable Rodwell Ferguson, the Minister of Transport, and Philip Jones, the manager of the City Shuttles. As of press time, however, there has been no response.
