INDEPENDENCE, Stann Creek District, Fri. Jan. 24, 2020– Career criminal Shane Bennett, 38, who was on the run from police for allegedly shooting Anthony Parks, 37, a laborer of Independence, which occurred at about 6:30 Wednesday morning at Parks’ house in Independence, has been captured, but the details of the capture and where he was found were not revealed.

The announcement that Bennett is now in police custody was made this morning by Commissioner of Police Chester Williams.

Parks was shot in the back, leg, side and chest. He was rushed in a critical condition to the Independence Polyclinic, where he was given initial treatment, after which he was rushed to the Southern Regional Hospital, where he is fighting for his life.

Police said that Parks was in his house at about 6:30 Wednesday morning when someone appeared outside his home and called his name, and when he opened the door to see who was calling him, he saw his supposed friend, Shane Bennett, who shot him.

Parks’ girlfriend, who was at home and was alarmed by the gunshots, went out to see what was happening. She saw the shooter, Bennett, whom she also knows. She got two bottles and threw them at him. He retaliated and fired 2 shots at her, but luckily she was not hit, and Bennett rode away.

Commissioner Williams said that police were looking for Bennett for a number of offences. Williams said that Bennett and Parks were friends, but there was a fall out between them over drugs and Bennett threatened to kill Parks.
