COROZAL TOWN, Mon. Feb. 4, 2019– This past weekend, Sunday, February 3, the Corozal Football Association (CFA) embarked on its 2018-2019 Closing Season Tournament. It started with a parade from the Miami Beach to Ricalde Stadium. Most of the participating clubs walked with us; this was one of its kind, and a positive experience for the community.

Following the parade, the opening ceremony started, and we are grateful that Mr. Philip Marin, Technical Development Director from the FFB, joined us along with the Organizing Committee (OC) Chairman, Mr. Melhem Williams. It is an honor to have the continued support from the parents and clubs towards sports development in Corozal. Thank you all for a job well done this week.

Awards were given to players that did an exceptional job during the Opening Season last year.

U-15 Male: Best Defense – Jordan Casanova (Corozal Invaders), Best Midfielder – Omar Flores (Corozal Invaders), Best Forward – Luis Sanchez (Falcons FC), Best Goalkeeper – Eiden Cruz (Carolina FC), Most Valuable Player – Jovan Tun (Falcons FC), Top Goal Scorer – Ryan Williams (Corozal Invaders), Best Coach – Eric Dunn (Corozal Invaders).

U-17 Male: Best Defense – Lloudian Hall (Corozal Rising Stars), Best Midfielder – Jordi Elvir (Corozal Rising Stars), Best Forward – Shane Morgan, Jr. (Corozal Rising Stars), Best Goalkeeper – Eiden Cruz (Progresso United), Most Valuable Player – Romario Martinez (Chunox FC), Top Goal Scorer – Shane Morgan, Jr. (Corozal Rising Stars), Best Coach – Adriel Santoya (Chunox FC).

U-17 Female: Best Defense – Thaiani Matu (Calcutta Strikers), Best Midfielder – Darina Tzul (Calcutta Strikers), Best Forward – Gabriela Cowo (Calcutta Strikers), Best Goalkeeper – Kimberly Palomo (Calcutta Strikers), Most Valuable Player – Dianira Lopez (Calcutta Strikers), Top Goal Scorer – Gabriela Cowo (Calcutta Strikers), Best Coach – Sindy Fuentes (Libertadores).

Game results for Sunday, February 3

Big Field games – In game 1 at 11:00 a.m., (U-15 Male) Corozal Invaders won, 4-1, over Concepcion Consentidos. Goals scored for Invaders were by Bernard Jacobs (10’) and Josiekyk Lino (13’, 48’ & 78’); while Eric Pech (8’) scored for Concepcion. Game 2 at 1:00 p.m. (U-19 Male) saw San Pedro Uprising Ballers with the 3-1 victory over Concepcion Consentidos.  Scoring for San Pedro were Oscar Torres (19’) Zyrian Juarez (24’) and Edin Martinez (87’); while Concepcion’s goal was by Keifer Castro (40’). And in game 3, (U-17 Male) it was Corozal Invaders, 5-0, over Ranchito Young Warriors, with goals from Eric Rancheran (26’, 45’ & 70’), Dylan Diego (58’) and Eiden Cruz (84’).

Small Field games – In game 1 at 11:00 a.m. (U-10) Calcutta Strikers shut out Bacadia Warriors, 5-0, with 2 goals each from Raymond Jones and Jose Che, and the other from Kimani Rancharan. Game 2 at 12:00 noon (U-10) saw Jaguars with the 1-0 win over Corozal Invaders, courtesy of a goal by Owen Innis. And in game 3 at 1:00 p.m., (U-13) Calcutta Strikers won, 2-1, over Corozal Invaders. Aiden Daniels scored both goals for Calcutta Strikers, while Kimani Rancharan scored for Invaders.
