BELIZE CITY, Wed. July 15, 2020– A pleasant time of the day to all cricket lovers! Under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, the Sir Barry Bowen/ Harrison Parks Cricket Competition got underway this past weekend with some very exciting games played.

To get in full gear, let’s go to Boom, where the home team Brave Union went up against Surprise of Lemonal.

Because of the long break caused by the pandemic, it was very hard to get players together; so, when the toss was spun, Surprise could only muster 8 players to start the game. Surprise took to bat first, hoping that more registered players would trickle in. It was not to happen. The Surprise boys did a very good show by scoring 73 runs. Winston Anthony scored 24, while J. Stephenson of Brave Union took 3 wickets.

After lunch break, the Brave ones went in to try cover the score by losing the least stumps as possible. As well as the bowlers tried, Brave Union won at fall of 8 wickets. It was a well fought game.

Suga Boys took very good care of Northern Spirit, beating them, 69 to 65 with 6 spares.

At Isabella, two teams that had not lost any game yet went up against each other. That’s Brilliant vs Rural Mix. At the end, Brilliant was the victor with a score of 46 to 49 with 4 spares.

On Sunday, Brilliant was again successful, defeating Brave Union, 35 to 102.

Summer Fever defeated Berlan, 133+ to 131.

Western Eagles took Northern Spirit for lessons by beating them, 18 to 19, not losing any stumps. Yassir Pook of Western Eagles took 5 stumps.

Rural Mix did a thing to Surprise by beating them, 118 to 66.

To tie off the weekend games, Sunrise lost a burning one to Bandits, 66 to 68 all out. Bandits batted first and scored 68. As hard as the Sunrise batsmen tried, they were cut down, losing by only two runs.

Full stats were not included due to circumstance of my own. My humble apologies.
The following games are scheduled for this weekend:

Saturday, July 18
Summer Fever vs Bandits at Landing; Northern Spirit vs Brave Union at Sandhill; Suga Boys vs Brilliant at Carmelita; Surprise vs Western Eagles at Lemonal; Mix rest.

Sunday, July 19
Berlan vs Sunrise at Landing; Rural Mix vs Suga Boys at Isabella; Brilliant vs Surpise at Crooked Tree; Brave Union vs Western Eagles at Boom.

That’s it, folks! Have a fun filled and safe weekend. Continue to follow Covid protocol. Love and respect to all. Bye bye!
