Cricket Corner – Games resume

SportsCricket Corner – Games resume

BELIZE CITY, Thurs. July 9, 2020– To all my so loved cricket enthusiasts, under the auspices of sponsor Bowen and Bowen, this year’s Harrison Parks Cricket Competition resumes after a COVID-19 halt. This halt lasted for over three months. Some may not have liked it, but it was the best thing to do.

John Baizar with Sunrise Cricket Club

Before getting into specifics of our games, the president and governing body of the Belize National Cricket Association, myself and my family send out our most sincere condolences to the Baizar family of Bermudian Landing and Sunrise Cricket Club of Lords Bank on the sudden passing of their loved one, JOHN BAIZAR, a well-loved and known young man. He was a very good batsman that had broken down some great bowlers. A humble and genuine gentleman. His last performance was with Sunrise Cricket Club, a team he loved so much. May his soul find perfect peace with his Maker.

John Baizar

The Baizar family has also lost another loved one in the week. More on her passing in my next column.

As the games resume, there are some teams that will not continue due to the pandemic, and others for personal reasons. That’s understandable. To those that are willing to brace the conditions and continue to play, the Association’s President welcomes you aboard and a big Thank You.

The teams that will not participate in the continuation are: BDF, Easy Does It, Wicked 11 and Excellence.

A meeting was held by the Association’s body and captains of teams. This meeting concluded with some agreed changes in order to move forward in a fast but positive way. The main topic was that games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays. With this settled, the following games are scheduled to play:

Level One
On Sunday, July 12 – Bandits vs Sunrise at Belmopan; Summer Fever vs Berlan at Landing.

Level Two
On Saturday, July 11 – Brilliant vs Rural Mix at Isabella; Surprise vs Brave Union at Boom; Suga Boys vs Northern Spirit at Sandhill; Western Eagles rest.

On Sunday, July 12 – Surprise vs Rural Mix at Lemonal; Western Eagles vs Northern Spirit at Rancho; Brilliant vs Brave Union at Crooked Tree; Suga Boys rest.

Please follow the Covid-19 protocol.
Respect to and for all!
