DANGRIGA, Stann Creek District, Wed. June 15, 2022

Robert Michael Coote, a well-known punta rock artist and fisherman of Dangriga Town in the Stann Creek District, was shot dead on Monday night on St. Vincent Street in Dangriga, and there are reports that the person who has been detained for the shooting is a 17-year-old minor.

According to initial police reports, Coote, also known as “Culu” or “Kunku Man,” was standing in front of a Chinese gaming establishment at around 7:45 on Monday night when he was approached by a male individual who fired a number of bullets in his direction. As many as 9 of those bullets wounded Coote (who was reportedly known as a “mediator” in his family) in his chest, arm, pelvic area, and legs.

Coote was transported to the Southern Regional Hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.

At the scene, investigators found seven 9mm expended shells and four fragments.

Shortly after the shooting, police apprehended a 17-year-old male minor who they believe is the alleged triggerman, and who at the time he was stopped by police was carrying a 9mm pistol which police believe is the murder weapon.
