As anticipated by the fans, the Dangriga Basketball Association (DBA) Finals Matchup will be the two undefeated teams in the league, Hopkins Assassins versus Harlem Shockers. If you were at the Russell Chiste Garcia Auditorium on Saturday night, you would’ve gotten to see two intense yet competitive semifinal games. Both games finished with a 3-point deficit, where Hopkins Assassins and Harlem Shockers were victorious in their respective games. Who will be DBA U-23 Basketball Champions?

Semifinals results:
Game 1 – Hopkins Assassins, 70-67, over Foreshore Pelicans. Dangriga Celebrity Basketball Showcase

Days left to Dangriga Celebrity Basketball Showcase. A show happening in Dangriga since 2016. This year is “The Quadrennium,” their 4th year as defending Champ, Team Boogie-The Green Team will try to repeat a victory over Team Lisbey – The Red Team.

Game is set for Saturday, September 28, at the Russell Chiste Garcia Auditorium.

This year, it will be a whole-day event, starting off with a 10-man Relathon around town, into a whole-day Sales Expo, a Jacks and Ball competition for the kids, then into the basketball games in the night. This year’s goal is to raise $15,000 to assist the feeding program of three primary schools in the municipality.

Pre-game is a rivalry game: Ecumenical Throwback vs Delille throwback, then into the Celebrity Basketball match-up.

Draft for players of the Celebrity Basketball Match-up will be done this coming Monday during the Monday Night Total Sports Package Show on Hamalali Radio Station.

Cycling

In conjunction with September celebration activities in Dangriga today Sunday, September 8, was the 3rd Annual Mayor’s Cycling Classic, which was a criterium, 10 laps around the main streets of Dangriga town, a total of 20 miles.  First Place was Shayle Paredes from Georgeville; 2nd was Derrick Chavarria, also from Georgeville; 3rd Place was Mark Gentle from Belize City; 4th was Julian Velasquez from Georgeville; and 5th was Sherman “Pes” Thomas from Roaring Creek.  In the FEMALES Category, First Place was Paulita Chavarria, & 2nd Place was Emelita Gomez, both from Georgeville. SPECIAL PRIZES: For the Oldest Rider was Joslyn Chavarria, Sr.; & the Youngest Rider was Byron Vasquez, both from Georgeville; and the First Dangriga Rider to finish was Riden Flowers.

Next race coming up from the Dangriga Amateur Cycling Association will be our annual TV Ramos Classic coming up in the month of November for Garifuna Settlement Day; that’s when we will feature the Elite & the Weekend Warriors (Ryders) cyclists.

PLB football

This weekend will be the Premier League of Belize (PLB) final game of the first round from its Opening Tournament throughout the country. It will also be competitive games, as teams are battling to be around for the Top-4 playoffs. In Dangriga this Sunday, September 15, at 4:00 p.m. inside the Carl Ramos Stadium, it will be a very big matchup, and it’s time for our newly improved WAGIYA football club to deliver a long overdue 3-points victory for their home fans this Sunday, as they will host the guys across the ocean, San Pedro Pirates. This will be 7 pts vs 7 pts showdown.
