Another shooting took place just moments after the execution of Banks. Anthony “Devil” Johnson was shot in the head.

Tonight, one man is dead and another clinging to life after two separate shootings just a stone’s throw from the KREMANDALA compound shook the St. Martin De Porres community in Lake Independence. Darren Banks, 42, a well-known gang figure who had stepped away from a life of crime after being diagnosed with a mental illness, was gunned down and left for dead in the drain into which he collapsed at the corner of AMANDALA Drive and Ebony Street. Just moments after the shooting, as police were securing the crime scene, a second shot rang out—a single round this time.
That shooting took place on Vernon Street, a short distance from the first crime scene, and the victim has since been identified as Anthony “Devil” Johnson. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH), where he is receiving treatment. Reports are that he was shot in the head.
Darren Banks, a former gang boss of the PIV area, stepped away from a life of crime after being diagnosed with Schizophrenia while serving a 3-year sentence for charges stemming from a police raid that yielded drugs, an AR-15, and multiple rounds of ammunition—all of which were believed to be his. His family at the time advocated for his release due to his condition.
Family members of Banks, including his young daughter, were on the scene today as police attempted to piece together the evidence connected to the shooting. His body remained in the drain for a considerable amount of time before he was moved.
The two shootings occurred within a 20-minute time span this evening.
