By Amandala’s count there have been forty-three murders in the country as of today, with eighteen of those having been committed in Belize City. The most recent incident took place last night, when a man was shot and died on his way to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

The man, Dennis Nembhard, more popularly known in his neighborhood as “Colored”, was shot once in his back, sometime around 7:30 p.m. in an alley that links Oleander Street with Flamboyant Street, in the Lake Independence area.

According to Annalee Coleman, a sister of Dennis Nembhard, he was killed over “pikney fight.”

Coleman said that her brother had gone to inquire about a misunderstanding that one of his young nephews had with another young man. Apparently, there was a fight between the two boys, one twelve years old and the other thirteen.

“When I saw my brother, he was running toward me, and he shouted out to his brother, Dean, ‘Dean, ah get shot’”, Coleman said.

Coleman recounted that her other brother put Nembhard in his vehicle and drove him to the KHMH, but Nembhard was pronounced dead on arrival.

When asked what kind of person was Dennis Nembhard, his sister described him as the “run-man” of everyone in the area.

Although no one has been charged with Nembhard’s murder, police reportedly have a minor in custody for questioning.
