GeneralDeon Badillo, 27, dies 9 days after being knocked down

HATTIEVILLE, Belize District, Thurs. Dec. 12, 2019– Dion Badillo, 27, a laborer of Hattieville, was riding to work on his bicycle on the George Price Highway in Hattieville, on Sunday, November 24, when he was knocked down from behind by a man on a motorcycle.

Badillo, it seems, did not suffer visible injuries. He was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. His mother told us that she was rather surprised that he was released quickly, but at home Badillo began to suffer with pain in his neck and he had severe headaches.

In a conversation with us this evening, Josephine Badillo, his mother, told us that her son also lost his appetite and began to talk incoherently.

On Wednesday, she took him the Hattieville Medical Center, where he was seen by two doctors, who, after examining him, told his mother that he should not have been discharged. He was then admitted into the medical center and was administered intravenous treatment.

An ambulance was brought in and Badillo was transferred to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition. He died on Tuesday, December 3; however, while he was being treated on Tuesday, about a week after he was knocked down.

In a conversation with us this evening, his devastated mother said that hospital authorities have not yet said anything about the situation, and she is waiting to see what happens.

In the meantime, she has no money to pay for the burial of her son, and the morgue fee of $75 per day continues to increase, and she is seeking public assistance to meet the morgue fees, and the medical bills. Members of the public who want to help Josephine Badillo and her family can contact her at her phone number 631-7545 or 627-0468.

Dion Badillo is survived by his mother, Josephine Badillo; father, James Usher; two sisters and a brother, and a host of relatives and friends.
