GeneralDerrick Tracey, 33, of Dangriga, executed in Belize City

BELIZE CITY, Wed. June 26, 2019– Derrick Tracey, 33, a construction worker of the Commerce Bight area in Dangriga, traveled to Belize City with his girlfriend to spend some time with his sister, who lives on Sittee Street, and at about 1:00 this afternoon, while he was in his sister’s yard, an unmasked gunman came up and shot him several times with a prohibited .45 pistol in front of his sister and girlfriend.

Tracey was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Reliable information to us is that five shots were fired. Tracey was hit multiple times in the chest and arm before the gunman fled the scene.

Tracey’s sister, who witnessed the execution of her brother, is at a loss for a reason why her brother was murdered. She says she believes that it was a case of mistaken identity.

Those who knew him said that Derrick Tracey was easy-going and friendly and he was gainfully employed. They say he was not involved in gangs or violence.

His friends on social media said that the Lakeland Area where he lived will not be the same again. They say he was well-loved and will be missed.

Police investigating Tracey’s murder say they are viewing footage recorded by cameras mounted in the area where the shooting took place.
