BELIZE CITY, Wed. Oct. 27, 2021 —  Countless Belizeans are waiting anxiously to learn of any signs of improvement in the condition of one of Belize’s most well-known and beloved doctors, KHMH pediatrician Dr. Cecilio Eck, who is battling with Covid-19, and is currently in a critical condition at Belize Healthcare Partners after initially being hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH).

While he was receiving treatment at the KHMH over the weekend, his condition took a turn for the worse, and after a consultation between leading doctors, he was transported, sometime between Monday night and Tuesday morning, to the Belize Healthcare Partners Limited, where his treatment is being spearheaded by Dr. Pedro Arriaga, Dr, Jorge Hidalgo and Dr. Fernando Cuellar in the COVID ward at that facility. Together, these doctors are seeking to provide Dr. Eck, who has been committed to treating our country’s ailing and disadvantaged kids, with optimal healthcare.

Eck initially received intensive oxygen therapy to restore steady oxygen flow to his body, but when his condition did not improve, he was intubated, and a ventilator is currently delivering oxygen directly to his lungs. Since then, doctors have been noting slight improvements.

Dr. Cecilio Eck works in both the public and private sector as a pediatrician. He is well-liked by parents and children and is known for his soft-spoken manner and warm, caring demeanor. His colleagues know him as a force in the medical field who advocates for healthcare for the underprivileged.

His hospitalization has taken a tremendous toll on his family and his colleagues. Despite this, his fellow doctors remain diligent in their service to him. His family calls on the public and all who know him to offer a prayer on his behalf for his safe and swift recovery.
