BELIZE CITY, Mon. Aug. 23, 2021– Today, news broke that Dr. Fernando Cuellar has tested positive for Covid-19 and has since been hospitalized. Confirmed reports are that the doctor felt weak, and checked himself into the hospital to receive oxygen.

Dr. Cuellar, an internist at Belize Medical Associates, has, through various media outlets and public platforms, been dispensing to the public sound medical advice on the Covid-19 virus, and he has constantly reminded the public to be vigilant. In fact, he has passionately pleaded with Belizeans to comply with the Covid-19 protocols in order to prevent the excessive burdens and risks being faced by the medical community.

Dr. Cuellar stated publicly that a second and third wave of infections has the potential of “getting out of hand” if the Government refuses to take important steps to safeguard the population.

Dr. Cuellar, who is also a public advocate for widespread vaccination, has also said that a vaccinated person can still get infected with the Covid-19 virus, but the chances of a serious illness or dying are reduced.

We wish Dr. Cuellar all the best and a speedy recovery.
