Drunken Mennonite husband beats wife; breaks her arm

GeneralDrunken Mennonite husband beats wife; breaks her arm
In just over two weeks, three wives have died brutally at the hands of their husbands. Maria Enss, 46, a Mennonite, was lucky. She escaped with just a broken arm.

Maria, however, has refused to give police a statement, and police therefore had to release her husband, Enrique Elian Enss, a Mennonite, without levying any charges.

Police said that sometime around 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, they were called to a domestic dispute in the Mennonite community, Shipyard in the Orange Walk District. There, they found family members attending to Maria, who had a broken arm. They were told that Enrique arrived home intoxicated and began beating her, to the point where he broke her arm.

Police said that they detained Enrique and Maria was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital (NRH), where she was admitted to ward.

Enrique was released after being detained for just under 72 hours.
