GeneralElderly man killed in traffic accident - Antonio Aragon, Jr., 35, charged

One man from Northern Belize is dead and a teacher of Orange Walk Town has been charged with running over him.

San Pedro Villager Gabriel Noh, 66, is dead as a result of a traffic accident that occurred late Tuesday evening at around 6:55 p.m.,between Miles 72 and 73 on the Northern Highway, near Louisville Village, located in Corozal District.

Noh was seen lying motionless in the middle of the road.

According to police, Noh succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the hospital.

Yesterday morning, Orange Walk teacher Antonio Aragon, Jr., 35, was taken to the Corozal Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with manslaughter by negligence, causing death by careless conduct and driving without due care and attention.

He was offered and met bail of $6,000 plus two sureties of $3,000 each. He is scheduled to reappear in court on January 16.

There has been no police report on the matter since Tuesday, but Amandala spoke with the investigating officer who said that Aragon, Jr., when asked what happened, chose to remain silent.

Police investigations have revealed that Aragon was driving his maroon Mazda 2-door pick-up from Orange Walk to Corozal, when he knocked down Noh, who was riding his bicycle in the same direction.

At the time of the accident Aragon had as passengers three males and two females.

Relatives say Noh was at one of his daughter’s home in Louisville, and that he left her at around 12:00 noon to go home.

Within a week, two fatalities have occurred between Miles 72 and 73 on the Northern Highway.
