HeadlineFatal afternoon shootingon Fabers Road

Carl Reneau, acquitted of the 2017 murder of 15-year-old Jaheem Mahler, was shot to death on Fabers Road.

BELIZE CITY, Mon. June 13, 2022

Traffic on Fabers Road came to a standstill for a while this afternoon as police and crime scene technicians processed the scene of the most recent city murder—the fatal shooting of Carl Reneau, 33, who, according to reports, received several gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) shortly after being rushed to the emergency room this afternoon. The shooting occurred near the YMCA building on Fabers Road Extension at about 2:00 this afternoon. Reneau, who was riding on Fabers Road at the time of the shooting, was apparently ambushed, and was reportedly shot as many as six times and left for dead. His bicycle and a pair of slippers were left on the scene.

Reneau has had a number of run-ins with the law. He was acquitted in 2020 of the 2017 murder of young Jaheem Mahler, 15. Shortly after that acquittal, he was booked on another charge—attempted murder, for the stabbing of Robert Hower in 2020.

An official police report, which was released today, stated that police are investigating the incident.
