BELMOPAN, Fri. Sept. 9, 2022

The Football Federation of Belize (FBB) and a football club from Ghana, West Africa, Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, signed an agreement on Friday, in Belmopan for two exhibition games to take place between Belize’s A Team and Asante Kotoko.

The exhibition games are scheduled to be played during the Belize International College of Mayors and Investors Conference (BICMIC) on November 15-18. In July, the Mayor of Belmopan, Sheran Palacio, toured Ghana and Liberia and was able to invite several mayors and other officials from that part of the world to the conference, thus creating a football exhibition match.

“FBB looks at the signing of this agreement as a significant step in the collaboration with our African brothers out of Copperbelt FIFA region, and it’s an indication that football can do great wonders in bringing together nations from across the world. We have done so before, and we look forward to working closely with this club to improve our national team at home and develop some of the skills that they have and make sure we learn from the experience,” said FBBs General Secretary, Earl Jones.

Patrick Agyemang, a representative from Asante Kotoko Sporting Club, expressed appreciation to the FBB and Mayor Palacio for the collaboration.

“We thank you, Belize, the Football Association, and the Mayor of Belmopan, from Ghana the biggest club in the country, Kumasi Asante Kotoko. We are very proud and happy to come here for this international friendly match, but we are going to beat you,” he said.
