BELIZE CITY, Wed. Apr. 27, 2022 — Last night at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan, four football stars of the 1970s donned Jaguars jerseys and were hosted at the Belize vs El Salvador game by executives of the Football Federation of Belize (FFB).
Legendary player and coach, Christobal “Stobal” Mayen is currently on a brief visit home from the U.S., and he, along with three other 1970s football greats, Enrique “Ricky” Gongora, Wayne “Hogman” Olivera and Maurice “Reesho” Jones were escorted from Belize City to the game in Belmopan by FFB executive member FFB hosts four 1970s football legends Marlon Kuylen. After the game, which the men watched from the VIP Lounge, they were hosted for supper in Belmopan before returning to Belize City. The group also met and were heartily greeted at the game by another legend, 1980s star striker and former government minister, Erwin Contreras. (AMANDALA Sports Ed. Note: Kuylen said he had hoped to also take another legend, Rudolph “Peru” Olivera to the game last night; but unfortunately, Peru is still bedridden and unable to travel. Unfortunately also, Belize was trounced, 5-1, by El Salvador.)
