BELIZE CITY, Thurs. Mar. 23, at 2023

Blessings to all cricket enthusiasts – fans, spectators, players and supporters. Under the auspices of the Belize National Cricket Association, the Barry Bowen/Harrison Parks 2023 Cricket Competition continued over the weekend with again some very heated matches. Let’s start with Brilliant vs Wicked 11.

Brilliant went in to bat first, and all wickets fell for 89, with Kameron Tillett scoring 36, while Brandon Lewis of Wicked 11 took 5 wickets. Wicked 11 went in, and at the fall of 8 wickets Brilliant’s score was beaten. Tayshawn Moses and Randy Rhaburn scored 19 and 17, respectively, for Wicked 11, while Ravin Gillett took 6 wickets.

Tropical Disturbance took care of Brave 11 Reloaded, 127 to 111. For Tropical Disturbance, Greg Scott scored 54, and Herbert Banner took 5wickets. For Brave 11 Reloaded, Alvin Stephenson scored 19, and Beto Banner and Dirk Sutherland took 4 and 3 wickets, respectively.

Golden Eagles won over Weekend Warriors, 89 to 84 with wickets to spare. For Golden Eagles, Clifton Pook, Jr. scored 29, and Jermaine Pook took 4 wickets. For the Warriors, Jurel Hendy scored 20, while Edison Robinson took 4 wickets.

Well, Zaglool Mohamad (ZAGHI), in his first game after knee surgery, was crowned Man of the Match when his team, Sunrise won over Western Eagles in a closely contested match. Sunrise went in to bat first, and at the fall of the last wicket the score stood at 147. Zaghi scored 23, while Marcel McNab took 5 Sunrise wickets. It was now time for the Eagles to try and master the score. It would not be the Eagles’ day, as Zaghi took 3 wickets. The Eagles were cut down with scoring 139. Rudolph Ferguson scored 51. That ended a match that saw two teams playing against each other having no wins. With that said, Sunrise is now on the board.

St. Paul’s Strikers team is devouring its opponents like an angry hurricane. This past weekend, the team did not have any mercy for team Long Journey by beating them, 56 to 59 with 7 wickets to spare. For the Strikers, Jerry Cassasola scored 29 and also took 4 wickets. Maleek Sutherland also took 5 wickets. For Long Journey, Alvin Dawson scored 22, while Tyrell Flowers took 2 wickets.

Progressive took care of Rising Star not too comfortably, 131 to 134. For Progressive, Edward Bull and Adeel Nicholas scored 38 and 19, respectively. David Wade took 4 wickets. For Rising Star, Marlon Rhaburn scored 23, and Lawrence Wade took 5 wickets. Now for the big one.

Excellence vs BDF. The soldiers took to bat first, and at the fall of the last wicket, the score stood at 281. Clinton Stephenson and Travis Stephenson scored 61 and 51, respectively. Excellence took to bat next, and at the fall of 8 wickets and a score of 148, the game was halted. Both scores were looked into, and after taking into laws governing the games, BDF had the better average, so the game was awarded to them. I tried my best to get full and complete results, but was unable to do so.

That ended a very well-played cricket weekend.

The following games are scheduled for this weekend, March 25th and 26th.

On Saturday, 25th – Golden Eagles vs Long journey at Gardenia; Brave Union Boys vs St. Paul’s Strikers at St. Paul’s; Rising Star vs Brave 11 Reloaded at Willows; Excellence vs Wicked 11 at Flowers Bank. And on Sunday, 26th – Tropical Disturbance vs Weekend Warriors at Flowers Bank.

Have a safe and respectful cricket weekend! To you all, Bye Bye! Till next week.
