Fraud physiotherapy clinic shut down

HeadlineFraud physiotherapy clinic shut down

BELMOPAN, Thurs. Nov. 11, 2021 — Today, the Ministry of Health and Wellness announced the closure of a physiotherapy clinic located in Succotz Village in the Cayo District. Physio Therapy European was shut down after the Health Ministry discovered that the physical therapist at the facility, Mr. Oscar Samayoa, was operating the clinic without having received authorization or a license from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The release from the Health Ministry says that an application was received and is being reviewed, but after consultation with key partners of the Ministry, they have confirmed that Samayoa is not a medical doctor and have advised the public to “reconsider accepting any medical consultation or treatment that includes antibiotics, pain killers and medications that are to be administered either via IV/IM.”

Samayoa’s service is listed on Facebook as Oscar Samayoa Physical Therapy. He attempted to set up his clinic in Cayo but that effort was brought to a halt after officials from the Ministry found that his credentials and documents did not meet the requirements in place for the issuance of a license for the operation of such a clinic.

“The ministry has closed down Physio Therapy European, a private physical therapy clinic in Succotz Village, Cayo District. The services rendered are also suspended pending the outcome of an investigation,” the release from the Health Ministry states.

Pharmacies are being asked to refrain from filling prescriptions from Mr. Samayoa, and members of the public are asked to report if they have been affected by his services in any way.

“The ministry also advises pharmacies against dispensing prescriptions from Mr. Samayoa. Furthermore, persons who have received services and have been affected in any way by the facility or the owner in this capacity, are encouraged to report it to the ministry,” the release said.

We reached out to Mr. Samayoa for comment but received no reply.
